Saratoga Chips: America’s First Kettle Chip

Saratoga Springs

In 1853, a cook at Moon’s Lake House in Saratoga Springs created thin, kettle-fried chips after a customer complained that the restaurant's fried potatoes were too thick. The legend is often attributed to George Crum (born George Speck) or his sister Catherine Wicks, also a cook at Moon’s Lake House.
