First Safety Passenger Elevator: Otis Elevator

Manhattan

In the 1850s, Elisha Graves Otis introduced the first safety passenger elevator at the Crystal Palace Convention in New York City. Three years later, their elevators were installed and used throughout the city. Otis elevators were installed in the New York State Capitol in 1881 and are still used today.
