New York City and LeRoy
JELL-O is often considered "America's Most Famous Dessert," tracing its origins to 1845 when Peter Cooper patented the first gelatin dessert powder at his factory in New York City. It was officially named JELL-O in 1897 when Pearle Bixby Wait and his wife May from LeRoy in Genesee County, added the iconic flavors and coloring to the gelatin.
