New York State Solar Eclipse

Eclipse Safety Tips - Use certified glasses, monitor traffic updates, view in designated public areas, check weather forecasts, wear sunscreen

During the afternoon of April 8, a total eclipse will encompass 29 counties in the western and northern parts of New York State. For other areas of the state that are outside the path of totality, there will still be 88 percent to over 99 percent coverage. The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will not be until August 2044.

At the Empire State Plaza in Albany, the eclipse is set to start at 2:12 p.m. and end at 4:37 p.m., with the maximum partial eclipse happening at 3:26 p.m. While Albany is not in the eclipse totality, the city can expect to see 96-97 percent coverage.
