The Holiday Tree at the New York State Capitol

Each year, the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) displays a holiday tree in the Governor’s Reception Room at the New York State Capitol to celebrate the holiday season.

In 2013, OGS invited New York’s 62 counties to help decorate that year’s holiday tree. The response was overwhelming with more than 62 ornaments donated, many one-of-a-kind, that have been displayed each year since.

In 2023, to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the first county ornament project, New York’s 62 counties submitted new ornaments to decorate the holiday tree. The ornaments celebrate our state’s diverse stories, culture, and natural landscape, from significant historical figures and sites to iconic cities and geographical features. Each county ornament is adorned with a custom identifying ribbon.
