"I feel that a commission which becomes an integral part of a building must take fully into consideration the whole environment." - Roger Bolomey in a statement to Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, 1967.

Roger Bolomey received the commission for the Empire State Plaza Art Collection during a time in his career when he transitioned from working in polyurethane to creating metal geometric sculptures. The commissioned works, both Untitled, consist of contrasting open and solid spaces that reveal themselves depending on the viewer’s location and reinforce the surrounding architecture of the Plaza.
