Art for Lunch tours are theme/topic-driven lunchtime tours of the Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Art Collection. Tours will start at 12:30 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes. The tour will invite participants to engage with selected works from the collection and learn a deeper history of featured artists. Each tour will focus on a different selection of artworks and on various themes such as: Artists Who Served, Post-Painterly Abstraction, Immigrant Artists, and The Art of Conservation. Betty Parsons was an artist, early promoter of abstract expressionism and a pioneer in gallery design. Her gallery, the Betty Parsons Gallery, helped launch the careers of some of the biggest names in the field, including, Jackson Pollock, Clyfford Still, Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman. The tour will explore her career and visit artworks at the Empire State Plaza that were purchased directly from her gallery by the Plaza Art Collection commission.
